My Mego "Star Trek" movie bridge playset

Some email pals asked me about this, so I figured it was easier to put it in a blog entry:

TMP Bridge

My cool vacu-formed white plastic Mego bridge set, from "Star Trek: The Motion Picture", was bought on eBay about 1999 or 2000. They were quite rare, and I'd always coveted them.

I plan to paint it eventually. It's populated with my Mego TMP action figures and customised alien ambassadors. Several of these were also eBay purchases. I love the way it looks like the ambassadors have just walked out of the framed lobbycard.

To think I once wrote to Heroes World and had the chance to buy the aliens at these prices, but didn't complete the order:

Sigh...

I think you've mentioned this before, but I don't recall where. What publication was the order form in?

Never mind. I should have just followed the link. Amazing what you can do with a little HTML.

Yeah, it's from issue #2 of Marvel's post-TMP series: the second part of the TMP adaptation.

The perscan belt looks pretty cool but it would have gotten me beaten up back in 1979.

The short scene in ST-TMP where Admiral Kirk comes up the escalator with a Commodore has always been a favourite. Some of the background was probably a matt picture with some moving elements bought in, in Post Production.

But you seem to have a certified picture of the matte painting as used in the movie. I had a quick look around on the web for like images.

I found this image from Memory Alpha which might have been an earlier painting which shows another level of air trams to the right. Normally the right side of the terminal has a wall all the way to the roof. Also the Golden Gate Bridge is bigger, there is an overhead office, yet the foreground people milling remains the same.

Fascinating?

The pic next to my playset is one of the official lobby cards. Kirk was with Commander Sonak, the soon to be ex-Vulcan.

Remember, the scene was also tinkered with CGI additions for the DVD Director's Edition.
