More sights of Ann Arbor

The plan for today was yet another away mission, roaming around the sights of Ann Arbor and enjoying the falling snow. But what's that the Andorian Sock Monkey has picked up on the main viewscreen? A Borg vessel? We must investigate!

Literary luminaries on this mural by Richard Wolk, painted 28 years ago, near the corner of
East Liberty & South State Streets. With Woody Allen, Edgar Allan Poe, Herman Hese (Hermann Hesse),
Franz Kafka and Anais Nin. It was recently restored by the original artist.

Seahorse on the wall!

After many, many months, the seahorse mural is finally completed and grouted to the wall of the shower recess.

Originally traced from a 3D carved wooden seahorse my parents once brought back for me from a Pacific Island cruise, the eyes and bubbles are glass hemispherical "stones". When the white background started looking too stark, seaweed strands and a school of fish were added.

For a time, I was flummoxed about the grout. With white tiles for the background, white grout would have looked wrong. I considered adding a grey coloured oxide, but how much would be needed? Then I found green ready-made grout in a squeeze bottle (now a deleted item, sadly) from Riot Art & Craft in Penrith. They also had vibrant pink.

Library on the move!

After one false start last Tuesday, the school library finally leaves Penrith Public School (almost) the way it came two decades ago... in ten segments.

I say "almost" because the segments leave us, each one decorated with a portion of mural, dating back to 1998.

Big cat dreaming

Big cats mural, behind bars, on the wall of Mount Druitt Office of the the NSW Department of Education & Training.

I pass this clever mural - I love the way it incorporates actual metal bars - every time I attend a regional meeting at Mount Druitt Office. Tohight, it was just on dusk when I walked by, but it still photographed well in the fading light.
